THE TEST
WHAT IS THIS TEST FOR?

The Abbott test helps detect the IgG antibody to SARS-CoV-2.

An IgG antibody is a protein that the body produces in the later stages of COVID-19 infection.

The test looks for evidence of the immune response to COVID-19. The test helps you answer the following question: ‘Have I been exposed to COVID-19 and produced an immune response?’

WHY IS A BLOOD DRAW REQUIRED?

The Abbott antibody test was developed for use and are validated on venous blood samples (blood is taken from a vein).

This test is not validated for samples of blood taken from a ‘fingerprick’ sample. This may affect the accuracy of the test.

We only offer the test when a medical professional takes your sample from the vein, as recommended by the manufacturer.

This can be done at home/office or our clinic by one of our UK registered and insured nurses.

Crucially 100% Specificity means no chance of a false positive.

WHAT DOES THIS TEST DETECT AND WHY 21 DAYS AFTER INFECTION?

IgG antibody production begins 14 days post infection. We recommend waiting until 21 days post infection when they have peaked.

“I have worked with Carlyle, Silva and the team at Prohab for a long time, and they contributed massively in improving my lifestyle and health. I have always appreciated their professionalism and attention, so when they told me about the Covid Antibody test service it was a no-brainer for me to take the test with them at their clinic. The whole procedure was extremely quick (instantaneous booking, next day availability, 1 minute to take the blood sample, 1 day to get the response) and carried in a safe environment.”

ALESSIO PIERI

“Thanks for arranging the Covid-19 antibody test. As I think you know, I wanted to check if a recent infection was just a regular viral infection or Covid -19. Everything worked a treat! The nurse arrived exactly on time and did a perfect blood draw. The results came back really quickly - quicker than I expected actually. All in all, incredibly simple and really good.”

PIERS FALLOWFIELD-COOPER

“After catching Covid-19 mid-March, I wanted to make sure my body had produced a response to the virus. Prohab provided the solution to my question; my body had produced antibodies to fight the virus and won! The service was very quick and easy to use. The nurse came to my office. She was friendly and professional. The process took less than 15 minutes. I would 100% recommend it.”

NATHALIE DI FOLCO

“Slots were proposed on the day of request. Nurse was there on time. Very professional, mask and gloves. Super speedy as whole family had early morning tests and results were received same day. I highly recommend the service.”

FAQ

Yes. Prohab is providing a coronavirus antibody test to look for the presence of SARS CoV – 2 IgG antibodies to the virus. Antibodies are produced by the body’s immune system in response to the presence of the virus and increase over time. Therefore, the test will tell you if you have previously had COVID-19/Coronavirus.

This test is most suitable to anyone that wishes to know their COVID-19 antibody status, including children from age 2.

No. This is a test to see if you have had past exposure (and therefore the antibodies), not to know if you have a COVID-19 viral infection presently. If you are experiencing symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath, high temperature or loss of smell and taste, you should isolate yourself at home and seek guidance from NHS 111.

Studies differ in recommendations of wait time; however, the most up-to-date advice is at least 21 days after the onset of symptoms. You can test any time after 21 days as antibodies will be detectable for as long as they are present in your system.

If you have not experienced symptoms, the test can be taken at any time. A percentage of people do test positive for antibodies with no prior symptoms.

A high percentage of test results taken by those who have been asymptomatic (not experienced ANY symptoms) have shown a positive for antibodies. That is, they have had COVID-19 but did not experience symptoms.

The short answer is that we don’t fully know yet.

We expect to learn more about the extent and duration of any potential immunity over the coming months and will update our answer as and when we know more/studies are published.

Yes, until we understand more about the virus and whether the presence of antibodies means that you can’t catch it again, it is essential that you follow all the recommended guidelines.

The test we are offering is the Abbott SARS CoV – 2 IgG test – one of only two tests that are approved by Public Health England.

It requires a venous (from the vein) blood draw as opposed to a ‘finger prick’ blood sample. The results are more accurate from this type of blood sample; hence it’s approval by Public Health England.

  • Sensitivity 93.5% (95%CI 85.5-97.9) for samples collected ≥21 days post symptom onset.

Results should be used in conjunction with information available from clinical evaluation and other diagnostic procedures. It has been recognised that there can be delayed responses in immunocompromised patients.

A positive result means that the laboratory found IgG antibodies to coronavirus in your blood. This means that you have been infected with coronavirus in the past.

No, a false-positive result is not possible with this test.

A negative result means that the laboratory did not find IgG antibodies to in your blood. This means that it is improbable that you have been infected with the virus in the past.

We arrange for one of our fully qualified and insured nurses to come to you anywhere within the M25.

Most of our clients opt to test in their own home or office. Alternatively, you can come to our clinic in St Pauls on a Tuesday or Thursday.

The blood draw takes approximately 20-30 minutes, and appointments run from 08:00-17:00.

There are no requirements other than you are fit and well on the day.
